Summer Brushes Painting with Artist Shawn Costello

Cost $300 per week

In this class, participants will create a small plein air painting every day. Our subject matter will include some of the beautiful gardens, coastline, light houses, boats, and New England houses that fill the town of Lubec. Our classes start around 9:30 a.m. and continue to lunch - around 12:30 or 1:00. Often students return in the afternoon own to continue working or sketch. On Fridays, we all bring a lunch and sit together and look at our work. Many students remain friends and enjoy the time together. Most students are beginners or have had some art experience and want to learn more about painting the landscape. Ms. Costello will share a variety of approaches and demonstrate each day. We will look at various Maine painters as well as local artists. Most participants work in oils or acrylics. For an ideal set of colors, Ms. Costello has a list with  the Utrecht Art Supply Company; Go to http://www.utrechtart.com/classlists  and put in "Maine, Summer Brushes" and the class list will appear. If you already have a set of paints, please bring what you have and supplement what ever you need. Basically you will need a warm and cool of all the primary colors, white,burnt sienna and Liquin. Liquin helps the painting to dry quickly. You will also need 5 small boards and canvases 11"x14" to 16"x20".
